About me
Dorothy J. Lennig, Esq. is the Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP), the agency tasked with coordinating and funding Maryland’s public safety strategy. In addition to advocating for public safety within the government and state legislature, she is also responsible for the disbursement of more than $300M in federal and state grant funding for public safety initiatives throughout Maryland.
Prior to being selected by Gov. Moore to lead GOCPP , Lennig served as Executive Director of the House of Ruth Legal Clinic for more than three decades. Lennig has devoted her entire career to supporting victims of violence throughout Maryland and advocating for laws and policies that reduce violence in our communities.
During her tenure at House of Ruth, Lennig supervised and directed the Clinic's domestic violence litigation efforts; served as House of Ruth Maryland’s lead legislative advocate and liaison to the Maryland General Assembly; and was appointed vice-chair of the Governor’s Family Violence Council.
Lennig is a past Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association's Family and Juvenile Law Section Council; was the chair of the Baltimore City Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team; and she was the co-chair of the Bar Association of Baltimore City's Family Law Committee and its Task Force on the Effect of Domestic Violence on Children.
As a thought leader in the world of public safety policy, Lennig was asked by both Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Gov. Moore’s respective transition team subcommittees on public safety.
Lennig earned her BS degree in Community Development at Penn State University and received her JD from the University of Maryland School of Law. She lives in Howard County.
