Ben Stevenson serves as the Director for the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR). He has over 29 years of experience working with the corrections profession. He currently oversees the operation of four divisions: Detention Services, Community Corrections, Medical and Behavioral Services, and Management Services Division. He previously served as the Division Chief of Community Corrections, overseeing operations of the Pre-Release Center, Pre-Trial Assessment and Supervision Unit, and Alternative Community Service’s (ACS) diversion programs.
Mr. Stevenson began his public safety career as a Correctional Officer in 1996. He transferred to the Community Corrections Division to provide security and community supervision work as a Resident Supervisor and a Case Manager until promoted as the Deputy Chief of Security and Facilities at the Pre-Release Center in 2011. Mr. Stevenson has a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from the Penn State University and has two master’s degrees in education and distance education from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). He also served in the United State Marine Corp Reserve (USMCR).
Mr. Stevenson has previously taught undergraduate criminal justice courses with UMGC’s Criminal Justice Department for over 17 years. He also has served as an auditor with the American Correctional Association (ACA) and served as the past President of the Maryland Criminal Justice Association (MCJA).
